Taking the plane home

March 26, 2012

After visiting many countries I decided that this week coming up I will take a trip back home and try some of the foods that are famous and originated from America. I might try the philly cheesesteak or the georgia sweet potato pie. I may even try fish tacos that are famously known in California. Make sure you check back with me soon to figure out exactly what I have decided to make for my next creation!

After traveling around the world from country to country I decided to visit some of the countries I took most interesting in that I have created recipes from before. The other day my grandmother was making homemade sauerkraut. As she was whipping up this delicious creation I asked her where does sauerkraut come from. She thought it was a german or polish invention . However, after doing some online research we eventually found out it is from china! Weird huh?   As a matter of fact the chinese started eating sauerkraut when they were building the great wall of china. So I thought I would try whipping up my own batch of sauerkraut with my own ingredients and ways of doing things. This is what I came up with..

1.One head of cabbage

4. Knife

5.Cutting board

6. Old Bay

With knife Slice away the thick stem of the cabbage

With knife Slice away cabbage into pieces on cutting board

Put sauerkraut in a crock pot with 7 teaspoons of salt.

Let sauerkraut sit in crock pot for about 45 min or until sauerkraut starts giving off a liquid substance.

After the hour start mixing the sauerkraut with a spoon for about 5 mins

A big liquid substance should of formed in the crock pot.

Push the cabbage down and make sure the cabbage is under water so you may need to put something on top to keep it down. Let it sit like this for 5 mins

After you have done this place the sauerkraut in a cooled place (preferably your refrigerator for about 3 weeks)

After your 3 week cooking trial has ended add 2 teaspoons of old bay for a unique taste!

This will be made just in time for dinner..3 weeks from now !

If your is great try challenging this great grandmother with your sauerkraut recipe!

You can try this corn beef sandwich made with your sauerkraut!

Egg Curry Anyone?

March 19, 2012

For some odd reason I was craving eggs today. I think it was because I woke up to my brother gobbling down an egg mcmuffin from mcdonalds. So because I am traveling to India this week I wanted to make an indian recipe with egg. I came a crossed egg curry and thought it was very interesting. However, like the rest of my recipes I decided to put my own twist into it and this is what I have came up with.

2 hard boil eggs

6 Curry leaves

Half Onion

1 tsp Chili Powder

1/4 tsp oil

1. Hard boil the 2 eggs when they are done crack the shell off and crack the eggs into halves.

2. Heat oil in pan for about 2 mins and add curry leaves in

3. add in half onion and cook for 5 min

4. add in chili powder and cook for 2 min

6. Put hard boil eggs in bowl and scrape curry leaves and onions into the bowl

7. Mix with spoon for 2 minutes.

8. Enjoy!

Another way to make Egg Curry!

March 15, 2012

Welcome to the country filled with spices. I am not a big fan of spices. I found this Indian recipe called broccoli fry. I thought I would attempt to make it. However I realized it has a bunch of unknown spices in it. I don’t want to spend my hard earn $8.00 an hour on ingredients I may or may not like. So I decided to try to attempt to make the recipe my own way.

Bag of fresh broccoli and cauliflower mixed together ( I got a bag from target for 2 bucks)

a pinch of parsley

1 tsp of oil

2 tsp of sesame seeds

1 tsp of cinnamon

1. Chop up broccoli and cauliflower into small pieces

2.Heat oil on medium in a pan for 2 min.

3. Add sesame seeds to pan with oil

4. Add chopped up vegetables and cook for 3 to 6 mins mixing with a spatula.

5. Scrap ingredients that is on pan into a bowl

6. Add pinch of parsley

7. Add pinch of cinnamon

5. Let it stand of one min.

6. Serve 🙂

Elk shaped organic pasta noodles from the IKEA swedish market was the main ingredient in my next creation.

Ingredients: Pasta-Algar elk shaped noodles

Shredded cheese

Microwave Safe bowl

Pour 2 1/2 cups of water into a pot and boil on medium for 7 minutes

Place noodles in pot and cook for about 12 minutes or until soft stirring occasionally

Drain water from pot and place noodles in microwave safe bowl

Take a small handful of shredded cheese and sprinkle on top of noodles and place in microwave for about 15 seconds.

Let the noodles stand for about 1 minute.

Serve 🙂

You can try different things such as  alfredo sauce!

You can try to make other IKEA recipes such as a piece of cake.

Why The Brits can’t get enough of the Swedish food!

It is similar to mac and cheese however you are using Sweden’s very own noodles which gives it that more unique of a taste.

Sweden At Last!

March 9, 2012

I decided this week I would take a trip to Sweden! I made a trip to my local IKEA store and went through a stroll in their swedish market. Who knew they would have a great selection of swedish foods. Everything from meatballs, swedish fish, fish, cheeses, and cinnamon rolls right in the palms of my hand. I took an interest to check out a bag of their mini cinnamon rolls. I also bought a chocolate bar for 99 cents. When getting home and reading the instructions on the back of the cinnamon rolls, I assumed I would need to bake them. Much to my excitement the directions read:” let cinnamon rolls defrost for one hour at room tempature then serve.” I never knew I didn’t even need to cook them.

So I then thought how could I take this recipe and make it something of my own. So here is what I came up with.

Chocolate Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients: 1 bag of swedish mini cinnamon rolls (from IKEA)

1 swedish chocolate bar

a mixing bowl

1. let the mini cinnamon rolls defrost at room temperature.

2. Then take the chocolate bar and break it into little pieces

3. Put the broken chocolate bar pieces in a bowl and microwave for 15 seconds or until chocolate is melted. (depending on your microwave)

4. Next take the cinnamon rolls out of the bag a put them on a microwave safe plate and microwave them for 20 seconds. ( I know it doesn’t say you need to do this but they taste better if you do)

5. Take the knife and dip it into the chocolate bowl and spread the chocolate on top of each of the cinnamon rolls.

6. Serve, eat and enjoy the tastes of Sweden!

Great recipe on Cinnamon Rolls!

Cinnamon is okay when it is on a roll, however experts say attempting the “Cinnamon Challenge” can be dangerous!

Fish and Chips

March 4, 2012

What is more like a meal from England than Fish and Chips?! I wanted to try this recipe out for myself. However I am not a big fan of fish and only like certain kinds so I wanted to try the recipe my own way.

1 baked potato (depending how many “chips” you want)

1 fish filet

cutting board

cutting knife

1. Preheat the oven to 425 F

2. Take the bake potato and place it on the cutting board and cut the potato into wedges with the cutting knife.

3. Put the wedges on a pan and cook them for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.

4. After the wedges are done take them out of the oven and place them on a plate to cool down

5. I used a boxed fish fillet. However I cooked it differently than what the box told me . I put it on a pan and cooked it at 425 F for 10 min on one side than I took a spatula and cooked the fish fillet for 10 minuets on the other side. Then flipped it back over and cooked it for 5 additional minutes on each side.

6. After it is done take it out and let it cool off for 2 minutes.

7.Place fish fillet on place with chips.

Easy Fish and Chips!

I know the British use beer batter with theirs, so here is a fabulous recipe if you want to try it their way!

11. Then you can add gravy on top (like the British do) or you can add whatever topping you like. I added jelly to mine.

I changed the ingredient sizes to this recipe quit a bit but all in all it is still yorkshire pudding!
